Isaiah 53:4-5 (NIV)

4 Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

Romans 8:38-39  (NIV)

38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38-39 (Codex Sinaiticus - oldest existing NT manuscript.

8:38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers

39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Do you notice the difference?  So next time someone tells me that the Bible has never changed and the words are exact, my answer is they are wrong.  Man has manipulated the words of God in the Bible multiple time throughout history to fit an agenda.  Take the current battle over homosexuality.  First, the word did not exist in the English lexicon until the late 1960s to 1970s, so there was no way it would have been in the Bible.  Secondly, the addition of the word into the Bible anywhere was forced on the publishers by the United State Council of Churches.    Just one example is 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 which is one of the six most quoted scriptures by the LBGQT+ haters.

The actual translation from the oldest known manuscript is as follows

Or know you not that the unrighteous shall not inherit God’s kingdom? Be not deceived: neither lewd persons, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor catamites, nor sodomites.

10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

Now compared to the one with the anti-gay quote.

Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men

10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
Do you see the substitution?  We need to be very careful about what we quote and the true source.   There is a very vile agenda afloat that has nothing to do with the original teachings of Jesus nor with the teaching of Saint Peter or Paul.

thought

There is a fine line, just a sliver of light really, between reality and fantasy.  This seems to be even more real when it comes to sex and/or religion.

As the 2024 election is beginning to get in full swing and our local, state, and federal governments are bogged down in hate.  And sadly to say the Trump hatemongers are resurfacing, this seems like a good time to put this scripture forward again

37 Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
38 This is the first and greatest commandment.
39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Moral Theology, a new interest

My Prayer for the Holy Spirit: Heavenly Father, in the name of your Son Jesus, we ask you for the gift of your Holy Spirit.  Please fill our hearts with the fire, compassion, and warmth of your love, and our minds with the light, wisdom, and clarity of your truth. (Compare Jn 16:13 re the Holy Spirit leading Jesus’ disciples into the fullness of truth, Rm 5:5 re God pouring the love of God into our hearts by the Holy Spirit who has been given us, and Lk 11:13 re Jesus teaching that God our Father will give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him.) This prayer is very relevant to Christian morality since being morally good from a Christian perspective involves loving God, oneself, others, and the rest of God’s Creation well, according to the truth.

 Romans 6:3-4, 8-11

A reading from the letter of Paul to the Romans.

Do you not know that when we were baptized into Christ Jesus we were baptized in the death of Christ?  We have been buried with Jesus through baptism, and we joined with Jesus in death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by God's glory, we too might live a new life.

But we believe that having died with Christ, we will also live with Christ - knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, will never die again:  death is now powerless over our Savior.  When Christ died, Christ died to sin, once for all, so that this life now is life with God.  In this way, you too must consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
